Protein is incredibly important for ours body's functioning and a lot of people are concerned that vegetarianism /veganism means you wont get enough protein ... It's definitely not the case and I hope this video shows just how simple it is to get plenty of protein into your day. There are so many plant based protein sources and some are just as high as animal products, nearly all vegetables, beans, grains, nuts, and seeds contain some, and often quite a lot of protein.
0.8g protein per kg body weight - as a general ‘rule’ - more if muscle building/training
"Complete protein" refers to amino acids, the building blocks of protein. There are 20 different amino acids that can form a protein, and nine that the body can’t produce on its own. These are called essential amino acids—we need to eat them because we can’t make them ourselves. In order to be considered “complete,” a protein must contain all nine of these essential amino acids in roughly equal amounts.
Complete plant-based proteins;
- rice in addition to beans
- legumes -lentils, beans, peas, peanuts- in addition to grains -bread, tortillas... - so a peanut butter sandwich or burrito, doesn't need to be together if you have them in the same day
Other good sources of plant-based protein
- green veggies like; spinach, broccoli, peas, green beans
- milk alternatives -soy or almond
- nut butters & nuts
- seeds - pumpkin seeds, seed butters -tahini
- nutritional yeast
